ADSU Bans Sign-Out, Marker Celebrations Before Graduation

Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, has banned all forms of marker and sign-out celebrations by graduating students, citing concerns over security, discipline and the institution’s reputation.

The directive, contained in a circular signed by the Registrar, Aminu Alkali, followed what the university described as an unhealthy trend during sign-out activities, including writing on clothing, defacing personal appearances and other forms of celebration deemed inconsistent with the institution’s moral, cultural and security standards.

The management said while it recognised the excitement of completing academic programmes, it remained committed to preserving the dignity, decorum and values of the university community.

According to the circular, the celebrations contradict the moral and cultural values upheld by the university and society, pose security risks by encouraging disorderly conduct and crowd disturbances, and undermine the institution’s image and integrity.

The university said all forms of marker and sign-out celebrations are now strictly prohibited, urging graduating students to celebrate their achievements in ways that reflect discipline, respect for themselves and others, and the core values of ADSU.

It added that security personnel and relevant university authorities had been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, warning that any student who violates the ban would face disciplinary action in line with the university’s rules and regulations.
