Accountant-General Faces Reps Panel Over ₦1.32bn PFIPC Budget Probe

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, is scheduled to appear before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Monday as lawmakers intensify their investigation into the ₦1.32 billion budgetary allocation made to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The probe follows revelations that the Federal Government has disowned the PFIPC, describing it as a non-existent agency despite its inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budget allocation exceeding ₦1.32 billion.

The committee, chaired by Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, is investigating how the council secured office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and obtained a government budget code that enabled it to receive funding without any legal backing.

During the hearing, Ogunjimi is expected to explain the process through which the PFIPC was assigned a budget code and how it became part of the federal budget. Lawmakers are also seeking answers on the approval process that led to the allocation of public funds to the agency.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the committee has already questioned several top government officials, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, the Director of Banking Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Abdullahi Hamisu, and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.

The investigation gained national attention after the arrest of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly posed as the Director-General of the PFIPC.

Adeniyi reportedly claimed he paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, in an attempt to secure the appointment. However, both the Presidency and Gbajabiamila have strongly denied the allegation, describing Adeniyi as an impostor and distancing themselves from the PFIPC and its activities.

The committee is expected to continue its inquiry by inviting more senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to provide further explanations on the matter.
