Police launch investigation into killing of Benue MACBAN Chairman, condemn attack
Benue State Police Command has condemned the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, Ardo Rabo Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa, describing the attack as a criminal act capable of undermining ongoing peace and security efforts in the state.
The victims were reportedly attacked by unknown assailants on Friday while returning from a security meeting along the Okwudu-Ogoli Road in Otukpo Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiogbu, expressed deep concern over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
The police commissioner described the attack as “a senseless and criminal act” and assured residents that the command had already commenced a full-scale investigation into the killings.
According to him, tactical and intelligence assets have been deployed to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
“The command will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are arrested and prosecuted,” the statement read.
CP Nwadiogbu urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against taking the law into their own hands or spreading unverified information capable of escalating tensions.
He also appealed to members of the public with useful information that could aid the investigation to report to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that security agencies would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure those behind the killings are brought to justice.
