The Nigerian Army has revealed that it is intensifying training and capacity-building programmes for officers and soldiers to enhance professionalism and improve operational effectiveness amid evolving security challenges across the country.

Speaking on Wednesday at the opening of the 2026 81 Division Finance and Accounts Training Week in Lagos, T.T. Siddick, Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), described training as the most valuable form of welfare that can be provided to military personnel.

Siddick was represented by I.A. Basharu, Commander of the Army Personnel Pay Office (APPO).

The Chief of Accounts and Budget said training remains one of the most effective tools used by the Nigerian Army to build capacity, strengthen discipline and improve operational efficiency.

He expressed satisfaction that the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) continues to prioritise the professional development of its officers and soldiers.

According to him, training programmes should focus on producing measurable improvements in competence, innovation and financial management across formations and units.

“Training remains one of the most effective tools employed by the Nigerian Army to build capacity, strengthen discipline, foster regimentation, and improve operational efficiency,” he said.

Siddick said the corps remains committed to developing digital competencies, promoting the practical application of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and strengthening financial accountability.

He urged participants to continually update their knowledge and skills to keep pace with changing accounting standards, technological advancements and emerging financial management practices.

He said the lecture topics were carefully selected to address contemporary professional challenges and support the strategic objectives of the corps.
