How ADC Plans to Defeat Tinubu in 2027 — Party Deputy Secretary Reveals
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared confidence in its ability to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general election.
This was made known by the Deputy National Welfare Secretary of the ADC, David Itopa, during an interview where he spoke on the current state of the country, the performance of the Tinubu administration, growing defections, and the party’s strategy ahead of the next presidential election.
According to Itopa, the ADC believes Nigerians are deeply dissatisfied with the current administration due to worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and rising cost of living.
He described President Tinubu’s three years in office as disappointing, arguing that the administration has failed to deliver meaningful progress in key areas affecting ordinary Nigerians.
The ADC chieftain said many Nigerians are struggling daily and see little hope in the current direction of the country. He maintained that there is a widening disconnect between the government and citizens.
Speaking on insecurity, Itopa said the security situation across the country remains alarming.
He noted that kidnappings, violent attacks, and growing criminal activities continue to affect communities nationwide, adding that many Nigerians no longer feel safe in their homes, schools, or workplaces.
While acknowledging recent gains by security forces in some regions, particularly in the North-East, he argued that such victories are not enough when measured against the broader scale of insecurity across the country.
According to him, isolated military successes cannot overshadow the widespread security concerns facing the nation.
On the 2027 presidential election, Itopa expressed strong confidence that the ADC would emerge victorious.
He said the party is convinced that Nigerians are ready for change and will reject the current administration at the polls.
He further stated that the ruling APC would struggle to retain power if elections are conducted fairly and transparently.
The ADC official also dismissed concerns over recent defections from opposition parties to the APC.
According to him, political defections are often driven by personal interests rather than national concerns.
He said the ADC remains focused on what it described as rescuing Nigeria and insisted that the party’s mission goes beyond individual political ambitions.
On the possibility of a broad opposition alliance involving the ADC, Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Itopa said political developments remain fluid and alliances could still happen.
However, he stressed that ADC’s immediate focus remains strengthening its structure and positioning itself for victory in 2027.
Speaking on electoral reforms, the ADC deputy secretary raised concerns over certain provisions in Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
He particularly questioned issues surrounding electronic transmission of results and the handling of network-related challenges during elections.
According to him, credible elections in 2027 will require greater transparency and full accountability from Independent National Electoral Commission.
He insisted that real-time electronic transmission of election results remains critical to improving public trust in the electoral process.
Itopa also addressed concerns from party members and aspirants following internal primaries.
He said many party members are worried about the harsh economic realities in the country and are looking forward to leadership that can improve living conditions.
On support for aspirants who lost out during the primaries, he noted that contests naturally produce winners and losers, but assured that the party is taking steps to address complaints, including refund processes for eligible aspirants such as women, youths, and Persons with Disabilities.
Sending a message to Nigerians ahead of 2027, Itopa urged citizens to remain patient and committed despite current economic challenges.
He expressed confidence that change is possible and said the ADC believes it can offer a better alternative for the country.
