Court Fixes July 2 For Hearing In Emeka Ike’s ₦10 Billion Suit Against Wike’s Aide
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 2 for further mention in a ₦10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by Nollywood actor and politician, Emeka Ike, against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
NEWSNGR reports that Justice Salim Ibrahim fixed the date on Thursday after Ike’s counsel, Leonard Adeh, sought an adjournment to allow the respondents to file their defence.
Ike sued Olayinka and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged breach of his personal data.
When the matter was called, only the applicant’s lawyer was present in court.
Adeh told the court, “However, I want to bring to the notice of the court that the bailiff told me that parties were only served yesterday.
“My lord, I want to know the nature of service effected, particularly on the 1st defendant.”
After reviewing the proof of service, Adeh said, “My lord, I am satisfied sir.”
The judge thereafter ordered that hearing notices be served on the respondents.
Ike, who reportedly contested for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections, alleged that Olayinka published his confidential voter registration details on 𝕏.
The post was said to have shown details of Ike’s voter registration transfer from Imo State to Abuja.
Ike is asking the court to declare that Olayinka’s publication of his database without approval “amounts to gross breach and violation of the applicant’s fundamental right to privacy and the protection of personal data.”
The actor asked the court to hold Olayinka and INEC jointly liable for the alleged breach and award him ₦10 billion as aggravated and general damages.
He also sought an order directing Olayinka to delete the post from his 𝕏 handle and tender an “unreserved apology” in writing.
