Bernardo Silva Joins Real Madrid As Mourinho Continues Summer Rebuild

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva on a two-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 30 June 2028.

In a brief statement released earlier today, June 17, the Spanish giants said: “Real Madrid CF and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028.”

The move sees the 31-year-old reunite with fellow Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, who recently took charge of the club and has wasted little time reshaping his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Silva arrived as a free agent after bringing the curtain down on a glittering nine-year spell at Manchester City. During his time at the Etihad, he established himself as one of the club’s most influential figures and captained the side in his final season.

His trophy haul in Manchester included six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, three FA Cups, five League Cups and three Community Shields. City also lifted both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his final campaign.

The midfielder had been strongly linked with several clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, before opting for a move to the Spanish capital.

Silva becomes Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a £52 million deal.

The transfer comes after a disappointing season for Los Blancos, who finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona and exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage without winning a major trophy.

Silva is currently away with Portugal at the World Cup and is expected to play a key role for his national team before linking up with his new club.

Real Madrid are also reported to be pursuing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, while France international Ibrahima Konate is expected to arrive following his departure from Liverpool. NEWSNGR reports that the club’s defender, Antonio Rudiger recently extended his contract with the club until 2027.
