Police arrest suspects who killed two officers in Abia, apprehend female ammunition supplier

Abia State Police Command has arrested some of the suspects allegedly responsible for the attack on Uratta Divisional Headquarters in Aba.
The attack, which occurred on October 17, 2026, left two policemen dead while some other officers on duty were injured.
Briefing journalists on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, said the suspects were apprehended through credible intelligence and in collaboration with sister security agencies.
He noted that discreet investigations are ongoing to nab other accomplices responsible for the attacks.
The CP said his command had recorded success in crime fighting, noting that child traffickers and other criminal elements were apprehended, and some were now successfully prosecuted and remanded at the Nigerian Correctional facilities.
Afolabi said a female suspect, Chioma Okechukwu, who was an alleged accomplice in the supply of illegal ammunition, was also nabbed by his command.
He said a police sergeant, who was recently involved in vandalism of pipelines in the state, has been dismissed from the Force, in line with the zero tolerance for misconduct rule.
The Commissioner of Police further said the Command has trained its officers in intelligence gathering and cybercrime investigations to improve their operational capacity.
Some of the arrested suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters, Bende Road, Umuahia.
