NPFL hands Rivers United suspended N15m fine, three-point, goals deduction

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has imposed a suspended fine of N15 million and a three-point and three-goal deduction on Rivers United for obstructing the live broadcast of their home fixture against Rangers International on Sunday.
The Matchday 11 encounter, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to the NPFL, the N15 million fine and the sporting sanctions will only be activated if Rivers United commits a similar offence again during the ongoing season.
NPFL Chief Executive Officer, Ayo Abdulrahman, said the club’s action undermined the league’s commercial and broadcasting agreements.
He further stated that the incident had brought the integrity and reputation of the league into disrepute.
Abdulrahman stressed that no club is permitted to obstruct, restrict or deny authorised broadcast access, particularly during matches officially scheduled for live television coverage.
