El Niño: Nigerian govt knows danger, yet no light – Utomi blasts Tinubu over blackout

A professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has blasted the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the worsening electricity crisis in Nigeria.
In a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, Utomi warned that millions of citizens have been left without power supply even as the El Niño climate threat approaches.
He said the people who have plunged Nigeria into the electricity crisis are fully aware of the El Niño warnings and the danger the climate phenomenon could pose to the country.
“They know what is coming; they know Nigeria is among the countries that could be affected, yet millions of citizens have gone weeks without a reliable electricity supply,” Utomi said.
According to him, a government that cannot guarantee its citizens reliable electricity in the face of an approaching climate threat has a lot of explanation to give.
He said the ordinary Nigerian cannot continue to be treated as an afterthought.
