Kano woman faces trial for allegedly mutilating boyfriend’s genitals

A Kano State High Court has begun hearing evidence in the trial of Maimuna Idris, who is accused of cutting off her boyfriend’s genitals.
At the hearing held at the Audu Bako Secretariat court complex in Kano, the prosecution lawyer, Safiya Yalwati Yahaya, called the alleged victim, Ashiru Sani, to testify.
Sani told the court that Idris allegedly gave him a drug identified as Diazepam, which he claimed caused him to lose consciousness before the incident.
After listening to his testimony, the court discharged the witness and adjourned the case until November 19, 2026, for further hearing.
The defendant had earlier pleaded not guilty to the allegation that she cut off Sani’s genitals in a relaxation room.
The trial is expected to continue on the next adjourned date.
