President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former FirstBank Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, on his installation as the Balogun of Oyo by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.
The installation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, Tinubu described Adeduntan as a distinguished banker and patriot whose contributions have extended beyond the financial sector to education, healthcare, philanthropy and national development.
The President recalled Adeduntan’s career in banking, particularly his tenure as Group CEO of FirstBank, where he led what the presidency described as a far-reaching transformation of one of Nigeria’s oldest financial institutions.
Tinubu also highlighted Adeduntan’s service as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, as well as his philanthropic work through the Adesola Adeduntan Foundation.
According to the President, the foundation has supported the development of modern primary healthcare centres serving communities in Oyo and Ibadan, while also investing in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
Congratulating Adeduntan on his new traditional title, Tinubu urged him to bring his professional experience and leadership qualities to his new responsibilities in Oyo Kingdom.
“As you assume this historic responsibility, I urge you to bring to the service of the Alaafin, the Oyo Kingdom and its people, the same discipline, strategic foresight and commitment to excellence that have distinguished your professional and public life,” Tinubu said.
The President described the installation as both an honour and a call to greater service, urging the new Balogun to use his experience, influence and resources to promote peace, opportunity and development while preserving Oyo’s rich cultural heritage.
Adeduntan’s installation comes as the Alaafin’s palace continues to strengthen the traditional institution’s role in promoting development and preserving the cultural heritage of the historic Oyo Kingdom.
