Soldiers rescue six varsity students, driver from kidnappers in Katsina

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued seven people, including six students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and a commercial driver, from kidnappers in Katsina State.

The Deputy Director of Information, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olamiyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.

It would be recalled that the victims were abducted after armed assailants attacked a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina along the Daye–Malumfashi road in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

Osoba said the troops responded to a distress call on the evening of September 21, 2026, reporting the attack on the vehicle.

He said the swift intervention of the troops forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the scene.

According to him, all seven victims were rescued unhurt and subjected to preliminary security profiling and medical evaluation.

“Following the preliminary security profiling and necessary medical evaluations, the rescued individuals were safely handed over to designated officials to facilitate their safe reunion with their families and school authorities,” he said.

The rescue is part of ongoing operations by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt kidnapping and other criminal activities across the North-West.
