Six family members of ISWAP fighters surrender to Nigerian military in Borno

Six family members of fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

A post by a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, said the family members surrendered on September 28, 2026 to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Pulka.

Makama stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the individuals escaped from a terrorist enclave in Bulakambula, Bama Local Government Area.

According to him, the victims were subsequently handed over to representatives of the Grassroots Initiative for Strengthening Community Resilience, GISCOR, at its Pulka office for further assistance and processing.

In a related development, the troops intercepted and rescued a female minor, identified as a family member of an ISWAP terrorist, at Hudugum village along the Gwoza–Limankara road in Gwoza LGA.

The security expert added that preliminary investigation showed that the minor had escaped from a terrorist enclave in Waa, in the Mandara Mountains.

“The rescued minor was subsequently handed over to the Gwoza IDP Camp authorities for appropriate care and further processing.

“The developments underscore the continued pressure on terrorist elements operating in the Gwoza axis, as individuals associated with the insurgents continue to escape their enclaves and seek safety in areas controlled by security forces,” he said.
