The newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has assumed office, beginning her tenure with an interactive meeting with staff of the association’s National Secretariat.
Badejo-Okusanya disclosed this in a statement via her X handle on Tuesday, September 1, describing her first day in office as one marked by continuity rather than ceremony.
She said she toured NBA House alongside her predecessor, Afam Osigwe, SAN, the 32nd President of the NBA, who took her through the National Secretariat and introduced her to members of staff.
“Together with my predecessor, Afam Osigwe, SAN, the 32nd President of the NBA, I toured NBA House, where he took me through the National Secretariat and introduced me to members of staff,” she stated.

According to the NBA president, the transition was followed by a farewell and the realisation that the leadership baton had been formally handed over.
She said she subsequently returned to the office where the new administration began its activities with prayers before holding an interactive meeting with staff.
“Then came the farewell and the quiet realisation that the baton had truly changed hands. I returned to the office, and we began with prayer. Then, we got to work,” she said.
Badejo-Okusanya said the meeting with staff was aimed at beginning the process of translating the vision of her administration into action.
She said her first day in office reinforced her long-held belief that leadership is measured by what is done with the responsibility entrusted to a leader.
“Leadership is not the moment you receive the baton. It is what you do with it after you receive it,” the NBA president said.
