The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of D’Tigress and $50,000 to team officials as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential reward for their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title and seventh overall.

In a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, NSC, Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi FCAI, ANIPR, on September 9, 2026, the Commission said the players’ and officials’ accounts were credited on the same day and that they had all confirmed receipt of the payments.

The payment followed the team’s final match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

With the latest payment, the NSC said the entire Presidential rewards promised to members of D’Tigress by President Tinubu had been fully redeemed and completed.

The rewards comprise a three-bedroom flat in Abuja, national honours of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON), the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for team officials.

It recalled that D’Tigress players and officials received the title documents (C of O) for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of national honours of OON duly signed by President Tinubu in February 2026 in Lyon, France, during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Similarly, the Commission said the Super Falcons had received the title documents (C of O) for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja as well as certificates of national honours of OON duly signed by the President and Commander-in-Chief during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco in July/August 2026.

The NSC said the Super Falcons players and officials should receive alerts for the naira equivalent of $100,000 for players and $50,000 for officials before their next official engagements, completing the Presidential rewards promised to the team.

The Super Falcons were feted by President Tinubu after winning the WAFCON for a record-extending 10th time in Morocco in 2025.

Their Presidential rewards also comprised three-bedroom flats in Abuja, national honours of OON, the naira equivalent of $100,000 for players and $50,000 for officials.

The Commission described the rewards as unprecedented, saying they were in alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative and Shared Prosperity agenda of the Tinubu administration, which places athletes’ welfare and appropriate rewards among its priorities.

The NSC said the rewards demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes and strengthening the sports sector as an instrument of national development.

“On behalf of the entire players and officials of D’Tigresses, Super Falcons and indeed the Super Eagles, the National Sports Commission thanks Mr. President for his immense support and unwavering support for Nigerian sports, as well as his commitment to positioning the sector as an instrument of national development and social/economic advancement,” the statement said.

The Commission added that the President’s support had given impetus to its reform agenda in pursuit of a sustainable sports economy under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE) framework.

It also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the Minister of the FCT, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for their support and collaboration.

According to the NSC, their cooperation ensured that the President’s rewards to the teams were implemented “in record time within the due process requirements.”
