Missing Nigerian Woman Saratu Jibo Found Safe In Qatar Hospital

Saratu Jibo, the 37-year-old Nigerian woman declared missing by her family after arriving in Qatar, has been found safe at a hospital in the Middle Eastern country.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the development on Sunday, saying Saratu is in safe condition.

Saratu had departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday aboard Qatar Airways for Qatar.

Concern over her whereabouts emerged on Friday after her brother, Jonathan Jibo, raised an alarm on X, saying Saratu had become unreachable after arriving in the country.

Jonathan said the last time he communicated with his sister was while she was still airborne, as she was connected to the aircraft’s WiFi.

According to him, Saratu did not contact the person assigned to pick her up from the airport after her flight landed in Doha.

He said the person later contacted the airport desk and was informed that Saratu had collected her luggage.

Responding to Jonathan’s post, Achimugu said the airline confirmed through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that Saratu had arrived safely, collected her bags and left the terminal.

Providing an update on Sunday, Achimugu said Saratu’s mobile phone and international passport had been held by authorities in Qatar while they sought clarification on some issues.

“I have spoken with the lady. She is safe. Her mobile phone and international passport were held by Customs, who were trying to clarify some issues,” Achimugu wrote on X.

“She was unable to reach anyone while the process was ongoing. However, she has been cleared and released, and has possession of her properties. She has contacted her family, too.

“She assured me that she is safe, and she appreciates everyone who showed concern for her safety.”

Achimugu also commended Yusuf Adesoga, a Nigerian resident in Qatar, for his efforts in visiting security agencies across the country in an attempt to locate Saratu.

Providing further details, Jonathan said his sister was taken to a hospital from the airport after she fell ill.

He commended Achimugu, the Nigerian Embassy in Doha and Qatar Airways for their intervention in locating and assisting his sister.
