Ekekwe Launches Blockchain-Powered Smartphone
Ekekwe, a Nigerian professor with a background in semiconductor engineering, introduced the ContiSX Phone as an extension of the blockchain infrastructure developed for the ContiSX Securities Exchange.
According to the company, the smartphone is designed to provide secure communication for individuals, businesses and institutions, while connecting users directly to the wider ContiSX financial ecosystem.
The device supports encrypted messaging, voice and video calls, with ContiSX saying its architecture is designed to protect communications against eavesdropping and tampering.
Rather than positioning the device simply as another Android smartphone, ContiSX describes it as a secure communications and financial technology platform built around its own ecosystem.
Security at the Centre of ContiSX Phone
Security is a major feature of the ContiSX Phone.
The company says encryption keys remain on the device, while a dedicated secure enclave is used to isolate sensitive keys and biometric information from the operating system.
The phone also incorporates biometric authentication, including fingerprint and facial recognition, for authorising transactions and accessing services.
ContiSX says users will have a self-custodied digital identity through the ContiSX Smart Account, which is designed to connect services including its securities vault, central securities depository and markets platform.

Every phone preorder includes one year of complimentary ContiSX Network services, including ContiSX Mail, Audio and Video.
Customers are also promised zero-metered access to the ContiSX Exchange and CSD ecosystems for one year, meaning users will not incur telecommunications data charges when accessing the specified core services.
Additional Benefits for Early Buyers
The preorder package also includes access to educational programmes linked to Ekekwe’s Tekedia platform.
According to the launch announcement, buyers will receive free access to the Tekedia Nigeria Capital Market Masterclass and the Tekedia Mini-MBA.
The broader ContiSX ecosystem is designed to combine communications with financial and business services, including investment, portfolio management, payments, risk protection and decision-support tools.
From iPhone Sensor Technology to Blockchain
Ekekwe brings a background in semiconductor engineering to the project.
He previously worked as a global lead ASIC design engineer at Analog Devices and has said he contributed to the development of inertial sensors used in early versions of the iPhone.
He has also highlighted his work on wafer-level chip-scale packaging technology for inertial sensors and his early technology projects at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
The ContiSX Phone represents a move from his earlier semiconductor work into blockchain infrastructure, secure communications and financial technology.
ContiSX’s Broader Financial Technology Ambition
The smartphone is being introduced alongside the company’s broader financial-market infrastructure.
ContiSX Securities Exchange has received approval-in-principle from Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission for its proposed exchange, according to reports earlier in 2026. The platform is designed to support areas including multi-asset listings, institutional trading, portfolio management and decision intelligence.
The ContiSX Phone therefore serves as more than a communications device within the company’s strategy. It is intended to provide users with direct access to the ContiSX ecosystem through a single device and identity.
What to Watch as the Phone Ships
The launch has generated interest because of its combination of smartphone hardware, blockchain technology, encrypted communication and capital-market services.
The key test will now be the device’s performance in real-world use, including its security architecture, reliability, battery performance, ecosystem adoption and compatibility with users’ everyday needs.
If the ContiSX Phone delivers on its stated specifications and security features, it could become an important example of an African technology company combining hardware, blockchain infrastructure and financial services in one ecosystem.
For now, the device remains in the preorder stage, with October 19, 2026 listed as the current shipping date by ContiSX. Follow us on X for more updates on Nigerian tech innovation.
