The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 personnel over alleged corruption and financial misconduct within the last two and a half to three years.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this while speaking with media executives and journalists in Abuja.

According to him, more than five of the dismissed officers are currently facing prosecution, while case files involving others are being prepared for possible legal action.

Olukoyede said the disciplinary measures were necessary to ensure that EFCC personnel maintain the highest standards of integrity while investigating and prosecuting corruption cases.

New Ethics Measures

The EFCC chairman also announced a new gift policy for commission employees. Under the policy, officers will be required to declare gifts above an approved value, including gifts received from relatives living abroad.

He said the measure would help the commission monitor potential conflicts of interest and ensure that officers can properly account for their income and lifestyles.

Olukoyede further disclosed that the former Department of Internal Affairs had been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity as part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability.

EFCC Recovers ₦1.23tn

The EFCC chairman said the commission recovered approximately ₦1.23 trillion, alongside $684.48 million, £373,905.78 and €9.34 million, between October 1, 2023, and June 30, 2026.

He said about ₦397.26 billion of the naira recoveries represented direct recoveries for the Federal Government, while the remaining ₦836.34 billion was recovered indirectly on behalf of MDAs, state revenue services, companies, individuals and foreign victims.

He added that approximately ₦661.32 billion and $492.37 million had been released to beneficiaries during the period.

The EFCC boss said the commission’s internal reforms and enforcement activities were aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.
