Cunha Strikes Late As Man United Hold Fulham To Draw

Matheus Cunha scored an 89th-minute equaliser to rescue Manchester United from defeat as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

United dominated possession and created the better chances in the first half but failed to find a way past the Fulham defence.

Fulham, however, remained dangerous on the counter-attack, with Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi coming close after finding himself one-on-one with United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who made an important save.

The hosts broke the deadlock three minutes after the hour mark following a counter-attack involving Calvin Bassey.

Bassey dispossessed Cunha before advancing into the United penalty area and firing a low effort at goal. Lammens parried the shot, but the rebound struck Lisandro Martínez and deflected into United’s own net.

Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno made a fingertip save to turn Mbeumo’s curling effort around the post before denying Cunha with another important stop.

United appealed for a penalty in the 86th minute after the ball appeared to strike Bassey’s raised arm inside the area, but the VAR did not intervene.

Cunha finally restored parity three minutes later.

The Brazilian forward cut inside from the left before unleashing a powerful shot that took a deflection off Fulham defender Nico Affengruber, wrong-footing Leno and finding the back of the net.

The goal marked Cunha’s fifth against Fulham in seven appearances.

United pushed for a late winner during stoppage time, but Martínez’s volley was deflected behind for a corner as Fulham held on to claim a point.

The result leaves both sides sharing the spoils after an entertaining contest in west London.
