Adamawa YPP Gobernatorial Candidate Unveils 17-Point Agenda

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Wafarininyi Theman, has unveiled a 17-point agenda, aimed at addressing security, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth development and economic growth ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Theman unveiled the blueprint, tagged: “Adamawa Rest Project,” in Yola on Monday during a press interaction with journalists, describing it as a development strategy built around evidence, accountability and direct participation of communities.

On security, the former lawmaker proposed a citizen-centred initiative known as “We the People”, alongside the establishment of a state security trust fund to strengthen efforts to protect residents.

Education and healthcare also featured prominently in the proposed agenda. The YPP candidate pledged to implement a “no child should be left out of school” policy, while promising reforms across basic education facilities.

Theman expressed concern over the condition of some learning centres in local communities, claiming that more than 58,000 children currently learn in difficult and unconducive environments despite government investment in the sector.

In agriculture, he proposed the creation of a Ministry of Food Production to drive mechanised farming and position the state as a major food-processing hub in the North-East.

He also outlined plans for a specialised financial institution, the Gongola Regional Development Bank, which he said would support efforts to tackle poverty, expand access to finance and promote housing opportunities.

Theman further identified youth and women as key components of his proposed administration, noting that young people account for a significant proportion of Adamawa’s population.

He promised greater investment in skills acquisition, modern technology and youth development, while pledging to increase women’s participation in government.

The YPP candidate also promised greater financial transparency and accountability across government institutions.

According to him, his administration would explore the state’s tourism, cultural and sporting potential as alternative sources of revenue and employment.

Theman said Adamawa State has the human and natural resources required to achieve significant development, adding that strong political will and public participation would be critical to achieving the objective.

The former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, who represented Hong Constituency, is campaigning on the strength of his legislative experience.

He previously served as state secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), later moved to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and subsequently secured the YPP governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
