2027: ‘Only God and Tinubu Know What Will Happen’ — Galadima

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has said only God and President Bola Tinubu know what will happen in the 2027 presidential election.

Galadima made the comment while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 election and the reported Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket.

Asked whether he expected the 2027 election to be free and fair, Galadima expressed concern over what he described as recent developments involving opposition politicians and their supporters.

“If you are dealing with criminals and fraudsters like these ones we have, you can’t be sure of anything. Only God and Tinubu know what will happen to this election,” he said.

Galadima alleged that opposition figures and their supporters had been subjected to coordinated attacks, citing incidents in Enugu, an episode involving Peter Obi in Benue State and an alleged attack on an African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kaduna.

Despite his concerns, Galadima expressed confidence in the reported Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, saying they would win if the election is conducted freely, fairly and transparently.

“Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair and transparent,” he said, while alleging that the use of government machinery could affect the outcome.

Galadima disclosed that he chairs the coordinating strategic committee for the reported Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance, saying the committee is working to harmonise their policy blueprints.

He described the proposed pairing as complementary, pointing to their different political backgrounds and experiences from Anambra and Kano states.

According to Galadima, the ticket could serve as a “healing ticket” for Nigeria, with national unity, restoration of public confidence in government and improved security among the issues he identified as priorities.

He also criticised reports of academics openly declaring support for President Tinubu, arguing that such individuals should not subsequently be appointed to participate in the election process.

On opposition strategy ahead of 2027, Galadima said it was not necessary for all opposition parties to field a single presidential candidate against the incumbent, noting that political parties could pursue different arrangements within the law.
