YOWICAN decries tricycle rider’s death, calls for peaceful conflict resolution

The leadership of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, North East Zone, has condemned the tragic death of a tricycle rider in Taraba State, allegedly following a dispute over a N300 pass fee, describing the incident as a disturbing reminder of the devastating consequences of violence.

In a statement on weekend, signed by its chairman, Evang. Jesse Ephesian, YOWICAN expressed shock over the incident and stressed that human life is sacred and should never be lost over disagreements or financial disputes, emphasizing that violence can never be justified as a means of resolving conflicts.

The leadership of YOWICAN urged the leadership of the Tricycle Association in Taraba State to urgently review and strengthen its operational guidelines and disciplinary measures to prevent similar occurrences.

He also called on the association to intensify sensitisation of its members on peaceful conflict resolution, emotional self-control, respect for human life, and compliance with the law.

YOWICAN further appealed to the Taraba State Government and security agencies to work closely with transport unions and other stakeholders to introduce practical measures aimed at improving safety, promoting discipline, and maintaining law and order within the transport sector.

Addressing young people across Taraba State and the North East at large, YOWICAN encouraged them to reject violence and embrace peaceful methods of resolving disputes.

The association warned that while anger may last only a moment, its consequences can endure for a lifetime, urging youths to become ambassadors of peace, justice, forgiveness, and love.

“We call on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” YOWICAN said.

They expressed hope that the tragic incident would serve as a wake-up call for all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity of human life and work collectively towards building a safer and more peaceful society.
