Yinka Quadri Recalls Ogogo’s Final Words During Hospital Visit

Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has recalled the emotional final moments he shared with his longtime friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, saying the late actor reassured him during their last meeting at the hospital.

Quadri, in a tribute posted on Instagram, said he broke down in tears after seeing Ogogo on his sick bed, but the actor told him not to cry and assured him that nothing bad would happen to him.

“You looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ I responded, ‘Yes, Amen,’” Quadri recalled.

He said Ogogo later asked him to pass him a bottle of water, which he drank before pointing out that he had also eaten that morning.

“A few minutes later, you asked me to give you the bottle of water on the table. I gave it to you, and you drank from it,” Quadri said.

The actor said Ogogo then asked doctors to confirm whether he had eaten earlier that day, with the medical team confirming that he had.

“At that moment, I said, ‘Glory be to God.’ My hope and faith became even stronger. The doctors only advised us to remain prayerful,” he said.

Quadri said he struggled to accept Ogogo’s death, noting that his friend had not wished to leave his children, family, friends and the many people who loved him.

He described Ogogo as his “bosom friend”, brother, confidant and companion, revealing that their relationship dated back to 1984.

“You were more than a friend to me. You were my brother, my confidant, and my companion,” Quadri wrote.

He said their friendship survived disagreements, rumours and attempts by others to create a distance between them, adding that they never publicly spoke against each other.

“I have always said that we were twins from heaven, only born to different mothers,” he said.

Quadri said Ogogo’s death had left an emptiness that words could not fill, but vowed to preserve the memories they created over decades.

“You may have left this world, but you will never leave my heart,” he said.

He prayed for God to forgive Ogogo’s sins, grant him eternal rest and give his family, children, friends and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
