The All Progressives Congress chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Osborn Umahi, has rallied supporters ahead of the August 22, 2026 local government election.

Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, led the campaign in Ohaozara on Monday, August 17, as supporters gathered at the St Margaret Umahi Pavilion, Uburu, to express their support for his candidacy.

Umahi had earlier obtained the APC nomination and expression-of-interest forms to contest the Ohaozara chairmanship election and subsequently emerged as the party’s candidate.

The campaign was part of preparations for the Ebonyi State local government election scheduled for Saturday, providing an opportunity for residents and party supporters to rally behind their preferred candidates.

According to a Tuesday statement signed by the Minister of Works’ Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the gathering demonstrated growing support for Umahi’s ambition.

The statement said, “The people of Ohaozara Local Government Area have demonstrated strong support and enthusiasm for the emergence of their young and vibrant son, Engr. Osborn Umahi, as a new generation of leadership.”

It said the campaign was “widely seen as a strong demonstration of the growing acceptability of Engr. Umahi across the council area.”

Umahi was described in the statement as an engineer, financial expert and seasoned leader, with a combination of engineering expertise, financial knowledge, leadership experience and broad exposure.

The statement said these qualities had positioned him to provide “purposeful and responsive leadership” if elected.

It added that the atmosphere at the campaign reflected a growing desire among residents for leadership anchored on competence, experience, fresh ideas and an understanding of their needs.

“For many of those present, the campaign was not simply about political mobilisation. It was an expression of confidence in one of Ohaozara’s own and a statement of expectation for a new chapter of leadership,” the statement said.

The campaign also highlighted Umahi’s connection to the local government and presented his candidacy as an opportunity for a new generation of leadership in Ohaozara.

As the election draws closer, the statement said attention had shifted from the candidate’s acceptability to securing victory at the polls.

“As the August 22 election draws closer, the focus now shifts from acceptability to victory at the polls. The massive support witnessed at the campaign, supporters say, must be translated into votes on Saturday,” it said.

The Ebonyi State local government election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
