Two fire outbreaks hit Access Bank branch, residential building in Kano

Two separate fire outbreaks were recorded in Dawakin Tofa and Kumbotso Local Government Areas of Kano State, affecting an Access Bank branch and a residential building.

The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred at about 1:17 pm on Monday at Bank, Dawanau, in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, after the agency received a distress call from a man identified as Michael.

Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station responded to the scene and found a one-storey building measuring about 100 by 80 feet, which was being used as a bank branch.

The statement said the fire affected a Mikano generator, which was completely engulfed, while an electrical transformer was slightly affected.

“The responding firefighters successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the bank building,” the statement said.

The cause of the flame, according to the Fire Service, is still under investigation.

The second incident occurred at about 6:19 pm at Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The agency said firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station were dispatched after receiving a distress call from Ahmad Mainama.

Upon arrival, they found a ground-floor residential building measuring about 40 by 30 feet on fire.

The statement said the blaze affected two bedrooms, a parlour and a kitchen but the firefighters successfully brought the situation under control.

“The cause of the fire is also under investigation,” the Fire Service said.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures to reduce fire outbreaks.

He also advised households to install functional fire extinguishers and observe appropriate fire-safety measures.

“Members of the public should remain vigilant and take proactive measures to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks,” Anas advised.
