Police arrest four suspected gang members linked to Lagos killings, robbery

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly linked to recent cases of murder, armed robbery and cult-related activities in the Ajah axis of the state.

The suspects were arrested during sustained follow-up operations arising from a robbery investigation, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi.

The police identified the suspects as Kareem Abiodun, 26; Tansiru Emmanuel, 29; Lateef Usman, 28; and Alashe Azeez, 32.

The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly connected to robbery incidents in Ajah, Sangotedo and Ibeju-Lekki.

According to the police, the suspects also made confessional statements allegedly linking them to armed robbery, murder and cult-related activities.

During the operation, the police recovered three locally made pistols, one live round of ammunition, two battle axes and a Point-of-Sale, POS, machine.

The command said the suspects remained in police custody and were assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries, while efforts were being intensified to apprehend other members of the alleged gang and recover additional exhibits.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, the police said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what he described as their diligence and sustained follow-up efforts.

Fatai directed the team to maintain the momentum and intensify operations aimed at tracking down other suspected members of the gang.

He also warned cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals that the command would continue to employ intelligence-led operations to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in criminal activities.

The police commissioner further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the command through its emergency lines to facilitate swift intervention.
