Police arrest four as suspected cultists kill Edo Security Corps operative

A personnel of the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, identified as Martins Enahoro, has reportedly been killed by suspected cultists in Edo State.
DAILY POST reports that the deceased allegedly killed one of the cultists during an attack on him.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.
Ikoedem said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that two of them had confessed to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.
She said the suspects had been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
According to her, the incident occurred in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area, at about 12:20 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
She said the Command received a distress call reporting an attack on the ESSC personnel, Enahoro, by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity.
The police spokesperson identified some of the attackers as Gbozia and Gezo, whose surnames were unknown, among others.
She said preliminary investigation revealed that during the confrontation, Enahoro, while attempting to defend himself, stabbed one of the attackers, identified as Gbozia.
Ikoedem added that the security personnel sustained multiple cut injuries during the attack.
She said both men were rushed to God’s Will Hospital, Ewohimi, where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while their remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.
She added that the Command had warned that attacks on security personnel were criminal offences and would not be tolerated.
