Plateau attacks: OPSH relocates tactical headquarters to Mangu

The Joint Security Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, OPSH, in Plateau State has moved its tactical headquarters from Jos, the state capital, to Mangu Local Government Area.
The development followed a renewed wave of attacks in the area.
The redeployment comes after a series of violent incidents in Mangu, including the recent attack on Binper Village, where more than 25 people were reportedly killed.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday during the relocation, the Commander of Operation Enduring Peace and General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Williams Dangana, said the decision was taken to strengthen security operations and reduce response time to emerging threats.
Dangana explained that having the task force leadership physically stationed in Mangu would allow commanders to monitor developments more closely and take quicker operational decisions.
“Establishing a physical presence in Mangu will enable leadership to maintain direct, real-time assessment of the security situation and ensure timely tactical responses,” he said.
The GOC said the relocation was accompanied by additional troops, equipment and logistics approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
He stressed that the reinforcement was intended to provide the personnel with the resources required to effectively carry out their mandate.
“My being here is not just in person. I’m here with enablers, additional manpower and all the resources required to execute this mandate,” Dangana said.
As part of efforts to tackle the deteriorating security situation, the military has also commenced a new operation, codenamed Operation Hard Nut, aimed at dismantling armed groups and restoring stability in Mangu and neighbouring communities.
Dangana assured residents that security forces would sustain operations in the area, with a focus on eliminating threats and creating conditions for the safe return and continued protection of residents.
The latest development follows weeks of renewed violence in parts of Plateau State, which has resulted in deaths and the displacement of residents.
