Osun police warn against forceful takeover of LG secretariats

The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcefully take over the affairs or premises of local government areas in the state.
The warning was issued on Monday by the Commissioner of Police, Election, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, following reported plans by some individuals or groups to occupy local government facilities.
Erale who congratulated the people of Osun State on the successful and peaceful conclusion of the recent governorship election, commended stakeholders for their participation in the democratic process.
The police commissioner, however, said the Command was concerned about reported plans to forcefully assume control of local government areas while the matter remained before the courts.
“The Police Command wishes to state clearly that no individual, political group, or association has the right to resort to self-help or the use of force,” Erale said.
He urged all parties involved in the local government dispute to exercise patience and allow the courts to determine the matter in accordance with the law.
Erale warned that any attempt to forcibly occupy or disrupt local government facilities would be regarded as a serious breach of the peace and dealt with according to the law.
“Persons found culpable could face arrest and prosecution. Parents, community and traditional leaders, political leaders and youth leaders should counsel their supporters against actions capable of undermining peace and security,” he added.
The Commissioner also called on residents of Osun State to remain calm, respect the rule of law and allow the judicial process to run its course.
He assured residents that the police would continue to protect lives and property while maintaining peace and public order across the state.
