Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim and neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a counter-tactical operation along the Papalanto-Ilaro Road.

The Command disclosed this in a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, saying the operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

According to the statement, the victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.

The Command said its Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced operations following the report and, acting on actionable intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto-Ilaro Road.

“Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries,” the statement said.

A search of the hideout, according to the police, resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million.

The police said the bodies of the two neutralised suspects had been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while efforts had been intensified to track and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as its “gallantry, professionalism, courage, and operational effectiveness.”

Ojajuni stated that the success reinforced the Command’s resolve to “relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge.”

He assured residents that “Ogun State will remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements,” adding that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and provide timely and credible information, particularly on persons seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, to assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
