The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has held discussions with the Lufthansa Group on strengthening aviation relations between Nigeria and Germany and expanding the group’s operations in the country.
Keyamo disclosed this in a statement via his official X handle on Friday, August 28, following a meeting with a delegation from the Lufthansa Group in Abuja on Thursday.
He said the discussions focused on the review and ratification of the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Germany, as well as plans by the German aviation group to increase its presence in the Nigerian market.

The delegation comprised Alexandra Dietzen-Zill, Senior Manager, Aeropolitical Relations and Traffic Rights, Lufthansa Group, and Walid Mahmud, Sales Executive, Lufthansa Technik, Aero Alzey.
According to Keyamo, a major focus of the meeting was the BASA signed by Nigeria and Germany in 2010.
“A major focus of the meeting was the existing BASA between Nigeria and Germany, which was signed in 2010,” the minister said.
He said both sides agreed that the agreement had become due for ratification and updating to reflect developments in the aviation relationship between the two countries.
“We agreed that the BASA is due for ratification and updating to reflect the current realities of the aviation relationship between both countries and we worked out the modalities to immediately begin work on it,” Keyamo said.
The minister said the engagement was part of efforts to deepen bilateral aviation relations and create an enabling environment for increased operations by German aviation interests in Nigeria.
