Kebbi: ASUU issues 21-day ultimatum to FUAZ management

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the management and Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, FUAZ, in Kebbi State, over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 agreement reached with the Federal Government.
The notice, which took effect on July 29, followed a special congress of the union held a day earlier, where members resolved to begin industrial action if their demands are not addressed before the deadline.
The decision was reached in the presence of members of the ASUU National Visitation Team and the Coordinator of the union’s Sokoto Zone.
In a statement issued by the branch chairperson, Danbauchi Senchi, ASUU accused the university authorities of failing to implement the provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement despite directives issued for compliance.
The union explained that the agreement, signed in December 2025 after years of negotiations, approved a 40 per cent increase in academic staff salaries alongside the payment of outstanding financial benefits.
ASUU also said the Federal Government had released funds to federal universities to settle five months of accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, arrears, but alleged that lecturers at FUAZ had not received either the salary adjustment or the approved allowances.
The union further claimed that the university had continued to operate without a take-off grant from the Federal Government, describing the situation as a major challenge affecting the institution.
It maintained that despite the funding concerns, lecturers had continued with teaching, research and community service.
Among its demands, ASUU is seeking immediate implementation of the 2025 agreement, payment of the outstanding CATA arrears and settlement of other financial obligations owed to its members.
Senchi called on the university management, Governing Council and the Federal Government to resolve the issues before the expiration of the ultimatum, warning that the union would commence industrial action if no action is taken.
