Gov’s Wife Empowers 800 Women, Youths in Kebbi

The Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Nafisa Nasir , has empowered 800 women and youths with start-up tools after completing a one-month vocational skills training programme across the 10 political wards of Yauri Local Government Area.

The beneficiaries were trained in various vocational skills, including shoemaking and bag production, cosmetology, catering, make-up and tailoring.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the graduation and empowerment ceremony, The wife of the Governor said the programme was designed to promote self-reliance and reduce poverty among women and youths in the area.

The Governor’s wife assured those who were unable to benefit from the first phase that another round of empowerment would be organised, urging residents to continue supporting the administration of Governor Nasir Idris.

Hajiya Nafisa also expressed appreciation to her husband, Governor Nasir Idris, for his continued support and for always providing the encouragement and backing needed to sustain her humanitarian and empowerment initiatives.

She thanked the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and other stakeholders for their support.

Representing the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala ,commended the Governor’s wife for the empowerment initiative, describing it as a major intervention capable of improving the livelihoods of beneficiaries and their families.

Tafida also highlighted the relationship between Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the Federal Government had responded to security challenges in the Yauri Emirate with the deployment of military and mobile police personnel.

He further pointed to other development projects benefiting the area, including the proposed coastal highway route passing through Yauri, and urged residents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the NANAS Foundation, Aminu Attahiru Nassarawa, said the empowerment programme was part of the foundation’s commitment to equipping young men and women with practical vocational skills for self-reliance and economic independence.

He said the NANAS Foundation was celebrating the graduation of 2,168 young men and women who had received training in various vocational skills across four local government areas of Kebbi State.

According to him, the beneficiaries include 800 graduates from Yauri Local Government Area, 502 from Gwandu Local Government Area, 516 from Bunza Local Government Area and 350 from Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

Attahiru described the graduation as more than a ceremony, but the beginning of a new journey of opportunities, empowerment and hope for the beneficiaries.

He explained that each graduate would receive a starter pack to enable them to transform the skills acquired during the training into businesses, sources of income and sustainable livelihoods.

According to him, the initiative reflects the vision of the founder of the NANAS Foundation and Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, to empower people and communities and contribute to the fight against poverty.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the training and starter packs provided to them to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The empowerment programme is expected to provide the beneficiaries with opportunities for self-employment, financial independence and improved livelihoods, while contributing to efforts to reduce poverty and unemployment in Yauri Local Government Area and other parts of Kebbi State.
