Education, Health Sectors Record Strong Nominal Growth In Q2 2026

Nigeria’s Education and Human Health and Social Services sectors recorded strong nominal growth in the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest GDP report by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Education sector grew by 43.98 per cent year-on-year in nominal terms in Q2 2026, up sharply from 3.85 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

In real terms, however, the sector grew by 2.76 per cent, compared with 2.22 per cent in Q2 2025. Its contribution to real GDP stood at 0.52 per cent.

The Human Health and Social Services sector recorded an even stronger 54.32 per cent nominal growth, compared with 6.36 per cent in Q2 2025.

Its real GDP growth stood at 2.64 per cent year-on-year, up from 2.35 per cent a year earlier, while its contribution to real GDP increased to 1.63 per cent.

The Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector also posted 11.93 per cent real growth year-on-year, up from 7.64 per cent in the same quarter of 2025.

Real Estate Services grew by 3.76 per cent in real terms, while Finance and Insurance expanded by 9.29 per cent.

Professional, Scientific and Technical Services recorded real growth of 2.79 per cent, while Administrative and Support Services grew by 3.27 per cent.

Public Administration recorded a more modest 1.94 per cent real growth, while the Other Services sector contracted by 0.70 per cent year-on-year.

The figures highlight continued expansion across several service-related activities, although the sector performances varied significantly between nominal and real terms.
