The Defence Headquarters has dismissed as fake an artificial intelligence-generated video purporting to show the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, expressing partisan political support.

In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video did not emanate from the Chief of Defence Staff and urged Nigerians to disregard the statements attributed to him.

“The statements attributed to the CDS in the video are false and should be completely disregarded,” Uba said.

According to him, the video was created through artificial intelligence manipulation in an apparent attempt to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.

Uba reaffirmed that the military remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution committed to the Constitution and the defence of Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” he said.

The DHQ condemned the creation and circulation of the video and warned those responsible, as well as individuals knowingly amplifying it, to desist.

It urged members of the public to rely only on information published through the official Defence Headquarters channels.
