Benue Assembly elects new Majority Leader

The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Peter Ipusu, member representing Katsina-Ala West State Constituency, as the new Majority Leader of the House.

The election took place during Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred.

Ipusu, an experienced legislator, previously served as Chief Whip of the Assembly and currently chairs the House Standing Committee on Tertiary Education.

His elevation reflects the confidence reposed in his experience, capacity and understanding of legislative procedures.

Congratulating the lawmaker on his emergence, Speaker Emberga described the new position as an opportunity for Hon. Ipusu to further contribute to the effectiveness and stability of the legislature.

He urged him to bring his experience to bear on the coordination of legislative activities while promoting cooperation, discipline and constructive engagement among members of the House.

Hon. Alfred further charged the new Majority Leader to support legislation and policies that would address the needs of the people and contribute to the overall development of Benue State.

He emphasised the importance of teamwork among lawmakers, urging Ipusu to maintain a spirit of consultation and collaboration with members of the Assembly in the discharge of his responsibilities.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Zappe Upaa, Hon. Alfred expressed confidence that Hon. Ipusu’s elevation would strengthen the leadership of the House and enhance the Assembly’s capacity to effectively perform its constitutional functions.

The development marks another step in the ongoing efforts of the Benue State House of Assembly to strengthen its legislative structures and ensure effective representation and responsive governance for the people of the state.
