Bauchi police deploy personnel ahead of August 17 LG elections

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the deployment of security personnel across the state ahead of the 2026 local government elections scheduled for Monday, August 17, assuring residents of adequate security before, during and after the polls.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the command had put in place comprehensive security arrangements to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free election across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Nafiu Habib, personnel have been strategically deployed to safeguard lives and property as well as protect electoral materials throughout the election period.
The command warned politicians, supporters and other residents against engaging in electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying and selling, voter intimidation or any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
It stated that anyone found culpable, including sponsors and accomplices, regardless of status or political affiliation, would be arrested and prosecuted.
Aliyu charged officers and other security personnel deployed for the exercise to remain neutral, professional and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.
He also directed them to respect the rights of citizens and operate strictly within the provisions of the law during the election.
The police commissioner urged residents to come out and vote peacefully and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
