WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said his nation will take strong action in response to an alleged Iranian missile attack on US forces in Jordan, stressing that Washington will not hesitate to use force to protect its troops and interests in the Middle East.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump made a strong statement against Iran, saying the United States would respond forcefully to the attacks.

“We’re going to hit them hard. They’re going to get hit,” Trump said, quoted by Fox News.

According to a Fox News report, Trump said missiles targeting US forces were fired overnight, but US troops managed to intercept them in a short time before they could cause significant damage.

The president explained that the military had only a few minutes to respond to the missiles, adding that he had already watched a video of the defensive operation carried out by US forces.

In addition to issuing a warning to Iran, Trump also attacked Tehran-backed militias, calling them a cancer on the world and claiming that these groups continue to threaten the security of the Middle East region.

In addition, Trump said the overnight US strikes against Iranian-backed Shiite militias in Iraq were carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government, a move he described as part of efforts to counter threats facing the US and its allies in the region.

Despite the continued escalation of military tensions, Trump noted that negotiations between the United States and Iran are still ongoing, indicating that the two sides still have a chance to find a diplomatic solution despite the current tense situation.

Trump’s statement came as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, with the international community continuing to closely monitor developments in the crisis due to fears of an escalation of fighting that could affect the security and stability of the Middle East.
