Tinubu Does Not Have Capacity To End Insecurity – Peter Obi

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he would take direct responsibility for tackling insecurity if elected president.

NEWSNGR reports that Obi argued that the country’s security problems require strong leadership and quick action from the nation’s highest office.

Speaking during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Obi rejected claims that opposition politicians or international factors are mainly responsible for the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

The former Anambra Governor said the government has the power to deal with the crisis if there is enough commitment from those in authority.

According to him, the fight against insecurity must have a clear leader, adding that the government, not criminal groups, should be in control of the situation.

He also questioned President Bola Tinubu’s ability to handle the country’s security challenges.

Using a past kidnapping case involving schoolchildren in Oyo State as an example, Obi said he would have gone to the state himself and remained there until the victims were safely rescued if he had been president.

He said he adopted a similar approach while serving as governor of Anambra State whenever major security threats occurred.

Obi recalled that during one of the worst armed robbery incidents in Anambra, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua kept in close contact with him until the situation was brought under control, despite the fact that they belonged to different political parties.

He said that level of involvement showed the importance of presidential leadership during times of crisis.

“For insecurity, one person must be in charge, and I can tell you that if I’m in office, I will be in charge. What happened in Ibadan? If I were President and 40 children were kidnapped into the bush, I would personally be in Ibadan until they were rescued. I did it in Anambra, go and ask questions. During one of our worst robbery incidents, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua called me every day until it was resolved, even though we belonged to different political parties.

“The ruling party claiming that insecurity in Nigeria is being fueled by opposition politicians or global events is nonsensical. It requires political will. One person must be in charge  either the terrorists or the government. If I’m in office, I will be in charge. President Tinubu does not have the capacity. If I had 40 children kidnapped in the bush, I would be in Oyo State. I was in Ibadan over the weekend, and Governor Seyi Makinde said the President has never called him. It’s unbelievable”, he stated.
