Bauchi State Police Command is investigating a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, and a civilian over the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was reported by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, the victim’s father, Mohammed Saleh, 42, reported the matter to police on July 22, alleging that the officer, attached to the Itas Divisional Headquarters, lured his 12-year-old daughter with N1,000 on July 2 while she was returning from Aisam Academy Secondary School.

Makama reported that the officer allegedly took the girl to a drainage dam opposite the Itas/Gadau Local Government Secretariat, where he allegedly raped her.

The report further alleged that on July 10, another suspect, Babangida Mai Shayi, 50year old, of Gambo Quarters, Itas Town, lured the same girl with N200 to his business premises, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Following the complaint, detectives visited the locations linked to the incidents, while the victim was taken to the General Hospital, Itas, for medical examination.

The civilian suspect has been arrested, while the police officer has been formally queried as part of the ongoing disciplinary and criminal investigation.

“The command said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and ensure that appropriate legal action is taken based on the outcome of the inquiry,” the report stated.
