Oyo Teachers Resist Intimidation, Storm Ibadan Streets To Protest Abduction Of Colleagues, Students

Members of the Oyo State branch of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) have staged a protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to demand the release of students and teachers who were abducted from schools in the state.

On 15 May, terrorists invaded Esiele in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and kidnapped over 40 students and teachers.

It was later reported that the bandits posted a video in which they beheaded one of the teachers they had abducted during the raid.

Since then, the daredevil terrorists have been releasing disturbing footage showing how their victims, including young students, are being treated in the forest.

Despite the torture the victims are being subjected to and the subsequent public outcry across Nigeria, both the state and federal governments have been unable to rescue them from the kidnappers’ den.

Following nearly three weeks of the hostages being held in captivity, a clip recently circulated online showing teachers in the state storming the streets to demand urgent action from the relevant authorities.

The protesters, who converged on Iwo Road, Ibadan, were heard chanting solidarity songs and demanding the return of their colleagues and the schoolchildren, shouting slogans such as “Bring back our children” and “No more bandits”, among others.
