My aunt returned from the UK and gave every adult ₦100k

A Nigerian lady has recounted how her aunt allegedly exposed one of her cousins after he criticised her in the family’s WhatsApp group despite reportedly supporting him for years.

The story, shared on X, detailed how what began as a generous Christmas gift later turned into a family disagreement over money.

Aunt reportedly gifted family members ₦100k each

According to the lady, her aunt returned from the United Kingdom during the Christmas holidays last December and decided to give every adult in the family ₦100,000.

She said one of her cousins accepted the money, thanked the aunt and left without any issues.

Cousin allegedly returned to request ₦800k

However, the lady said the same cousin returned two days later to ask the aunt for an additional ₦800,000 to start a business.

The aunt reportedly declined the request, after which the cousin took to the family’s WhatsApp group to criticise her decision.

Sharing the incident, she wrote:

“My aunt returned from the UK for Christmas last December and gave every adult in the family #100k each.

“One cousin collected his money, thanked her and left.

“Two days later, he returned to ask for 800k to start a business.

“My aunt refused.

“That night, he posted in the family WhatsApp group: ‘Some people travel abroad and forget where they came from.’

“My aunt replied with screenshots showing she had been paying his children’s school fees and rent for three years.

“His replied… ‘was I supposed to be rolling on the floor for that?’”
