A prominent Bayelsa stakeholder and the New Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer for Sagbama Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Ewhus Sapele, has called on Governor Douye Diri to immortalize the late Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo by naming a major state asset after him in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of Bayelsa State.

In a statement made available to journalists, Sapele described the late senator as a distinguished public servant whose dedication, commitment, and selfless service left an enduring impact on the state and its people.

According to him, every progressive society is built on the sacrifices and contributions of individuals who devote their lives to public service and community development, stressing that such personalities deserve to be remembered and honoured for generations.

He noted that Senator Ewhrudjakpo dedicated his years in public office to promoting good governance, championing developmental initiatives, and improving the welfare of the people, adding that his contributions remain an important chapter in Bayelsa’s political and developmental history.

Sapele said the late senator’s legacy continues to resonate through the lives he touched and the progress achieved during his years of service.

“Leaders who serve with honour leave behind legacies that transcend their time in office. Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo’s dedication to public service reflected a genuine desire to see Bayelsa State prosper and attain greater heights,” he stated.

He urged the Bayelsa State Government to consider naming a public institution, road, educational facility, healthcare centre, public building, or any other notable state-owned asset after the late statesman as a fitting tribute to his memory and achievements.

According to Sapele, such recognition would not only preserve the senator’s legacy but also inspire current and future leaders to embrace selfless service, integrity, and commitment to the public good.

He further noted that immortalization goes beyond symbolism, describing it as a demonstration of society’s gratitude to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to its growth and development.

Sapele therefore appealed to Governor Douye Diri and relevant authorities in the state to give favourable consideration to the request, stressing that honouring Senator Ewhrudjakpo in such a manner would serve as a lasting reminder of a life devoted to service, leadership, and the advancement of Bayelsa State.

He expressed optimism that the late senator’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations and remain permanently etched in the history of Bayelsa State.
