Abacha’s death: ‘Apples, Indian ladies story completely wrong’ – Ex-DSS director, Amachree

Retired Assistant Director, Department of State Services, DSS, Dennis Amachree, has countered Tony Eluemunor’s accounts on the death of former military head of state, Sani Abacha.

He said the accounts from Eluemunor on the death of Abacha are completely wrong as the journalist mentioned him in his account of the story.

This was after Amachree, had dared ex-Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd.), to produce CCTV footage of the military ruler’s final hours.

Amachree threw the challenge in reaction to Al-Mustapha’s refutal of claims in his newly released book, ‘DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield’, in which he alleged that Abacha died after suffering a coitus-induced cardiac arrest in the early hours of June 8, 1998.

DAILY POST recalls that Al-Mustapha had described Amachree’s account as false, urging Nigerians not to believe it.

Speaking on Arise News, Amachree said, “One thing I have to tell you is this: I am not discussing the full investigation, where even the ladies were interrogated when they came to Abuja, and when they were interrogated and then detained, and then of course after the custody, how they came to reach the decision of releasing them.

“That’s not what I’m going to tell you. Tony Eluemunor, I think that guy wants to be a secret agent. He wants to practice some kind of intelligence work. But I think alll his details were very, very wrong. I know he wants to come up with something to show that he too knows something about the security agencies, and then he wants to impress the public.

“Number one, he said that I was in the airport. That I was in charge of airport, looking for the girl who was escaping. Now he conflicted himself, so there was a girl that is trying to escape, and the DSS asked me to be at the airport to wait. That was not true. Because when I was in charge of the airport was was years ago, and then he said that I reported to the director of national operations in Abuja. He mentioned Mike Ejiofor.

“There was no way I would have reported to Mike Ejiofor. Mike Ejiofor is my junior. I retired before he became a director, and he has never been the director of operations at the national headquarters, so you can see that the same way they were manufacturing about apples and Indian ladies is the same way that he is busy manufacturing stories around me because he wants to feel that he can share what was going on.

“So those are people that I don’t want to discuss. He can go and write fictional intelligence detective stories that he can sell to the public.”
