Full List: NYSC Unveils 11 Specialised Streams For Corps Members
The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Monday, approved sweeping reforms for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) aimed at improving the efficiency and relevance of the scheme.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this after the weekly FEC meeting.
Olawande said the council retained the one-year duration of the scheme but approved seven major reforms, including digitalisation, a change in leadership structure from military to civilian control, and a redesigned NYSC uniform.
Speaking on the reforms, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, said the NYSC orientation programme would be restructured into three distinct phases.
She said the new structure was designed to better prepare corps members for national service and future careers.
According to her, the first two weeks of orientation will focus on civic responsibility, national values, leadership development and nation-building.
She added that the second phase will centre on career mapping, financial literacy, business planning, entrepreneurship and access to finance.
During the final two weeks, corps members will undergo specialised training aligned with their chosen career paths.
NEWSNGR understands that under the new framework, every NYSC member will select one of 11 newly created specialised streams during registration.
Usman said the corps members would then receive targeted training throughout the orientation programme to equip them with practical skills and improve their employability.
The 11 specialised streams are:
- Agric Corps
- Medical Corps
- Education Corps
- Tech and Digital Corps
- Legal Corps
- Public Service Corps
- Infrastructure Corps
- Green Corps
- Enterprise Corps
- Creative Economy Corps
- Paramilitary and Security Corps
Usman said the specialised streams were designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workforce demands.
According to her, the reforms will provide graduates with practical and career-focused skills tailored to their educational backgrounds, professional interests, and Nigeria’s changing economic needs.
