APC Sweeps Gombe LG Elections, Wins 24 Chairmanship Seats
The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 24 chairmanship seats in the just-concluded local government elections in the state.
The ruling party also won all 240 councillorship positions across the wards in the state.
The commission announced the results after the conclusion of the council polls, which were contested by six political parties.
According to the commission, the parties that participated in the chairmanship elections were the All Progressives Congress, Youth Party, National Rescue Movement, Zenith Labour Party, African Action Congress, and Democratic Liberation Alliance.
The parties fielded candidates for the chairmanship seats across the 24 local government areas of the state.
However, the APC cleared all the available seats at both chairmanship and councillorship levels.
NEWSNGR reports that the outcome gives the APC full control of the local government administration in Gombe State, with its candidates expected to assume office across the 24 councils.
The commission had yet to release further details on voter turnout and the performance of other participating parties as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will make an informed, lawful decision in line with the court’s directives after its legal department receives the Certified True Copy of the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which nullified the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
NEWSNGR reports that INEC, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser, Adedayo Oketola, said the Commission was aware of media reports on the June 26 judgment.
According to the statement, the electoral umpire could not comment on its specifics until its legal department obtained and reviewed the court’s decision.
