Adelabu’s Popularity Rising Despite Attacks – Aide
The media aide to former Minister of Power and Oyo State governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, Femi Awogboro, has said no amount of criticism or blackmail can diminish Adelabu’s popularity ahead of the 2027 election.
NEWSNGR reports that Awogboro stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He described recent criticisms of Adelabu as a political strategy often deployed against popular aspirants.
“Those who think they can stop Adelabu through media attacks and sponsored criticisms should learn from history. The same tactics were deployed against President Bola Tinubu before the 2023 election. He was abused, insulted, underestimated and attacked from different directions, yet he emerged victorious because the people saw beyond the propaganda,” he said.
He added, “If Adelabu was not a major factor in the political equation of Oyo, nobody would be investing so much energy attacking him.”
Awogboro urged political observers to question the timing of the criticisms.
“Why now? Why didn’t these people raise these concerns years ago? Why is it that as 2027 approaches and the momentum behind Adelabu continues to grow, some individuals suddenly become political activists overnight?” he asked.
He said Adelabu enjoyed support among youths, women, professionals and grassroots members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Those behind these campaigns are wasting their time. The movement behind Adelabu is organic,” he said.
Awogboro added that many of Adelabu’s critics would later return to support him, insisting that the former minister remained one of the most prepared leaders for Oyo State.
Adelabu formally declared his intention in May 2026 to contest the 2027 governorship election on the APC platform after resigning as Minister of Power.
