Trump Claims He Has Two Conflicting Intelligence Assessments On Iran

United States President Donald Trump has disclosed that his administration is working with two separate sets of intelligence assessments on Iran, noting that part of the information remains classified.

Trump spoke on Sunday when asked about a US intelligence warning that Tehran had intensified efforts to target American personnel, with plots against US citizens said to have reached advanced stages.

“I have two very different sets,” he said, but declined to provide details of the second set of reports.

“We have very advanced sets of intelligence on Iran. Some has been declassified and some hasn’t,” he added, insisting that Washington was “doing very well” in its dealings with Iran.

His comments followed a warning by the Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton, who said Iran had substantially stepped up its efforts to target US personnel.

In a memo dated October 23 and addressed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Clayton said Iranian plots against Americans had reached “advanced stages” in the Middle East and other countries. According to Reuters, the memo was also copied to Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe.

The warning comes amid an escalating conflict involving Iran and Iran-aligned Houthi forces, as Washington reviews security arrangements at its diplomatic missions in the region.

US authorities have cut staffing at their mission in Saudi Arabia and updated travel advisories for several countries across the Gulf and the wider Middle East, citing heightened security threats.

Trump did not publicly disclose the details of the second intelligence assessment he referred to.
