Premier League releases statement on Foden’s red card against Man Utd

The Premier League has explained why Manchester City’s Phil Foden was shown a straight card against Manchester United on Sunday.
Foden was given his marching orders in the middle of the first half after lunging at United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Referee Michael Oliver’s decision was ratified for VAR.
And in a terse statement posted on X, the Premier League Match Centre wrote: “The referee’s call of red card to Foden for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR.
“REF: ‘Red card Phil Foden – kick out into the body of Bruno.’
“VAR: ‘That looks like a clear red card to me. Looks to be a secondary movement. Confirming the red card for Manchester City No.47.”
